Dismal Swamp Canal Trail Park, George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, Va. (map)
Join us as we walk along the Dismal Swamp Canal Bank that was dug by slave labor. As we walk on this 3 mile long hike, we will discuss the history of the fugitive slave communities that existed in the swamp. The desire and will to be free, was greater than all of the horrors that the swamp contained.
All are welcome, wear clothes appropriate for the temperature, a water bottle and comfortable shoes. The "trail" is actually an old highway which makes for an easy hike.
This will be a socially distanced event, masks are required, hand sanitizer and masks will be available! Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
